“Psychofreak” by Camila Cabello (ft. WILLOW)

It’s safe to say that “Psychofreak” is deeper than your usual Camila Cabello fare. It isn’t so much that what is being put forth is deep in and of itself. Rather, this piece appears to be multi-subjected, on top of utilizing some pretty complex metaphors here and there.

But comprehensively put, what it generally speaks to is the vocalist being under a significant degree of psychological and emotional stress. And this appears to be the result of two primary reasons. The first verse puts forth that this is in part caused by, most simply put, the vocalist missing her ex. And this is an idea which seems to be buttressed by Willow Smith in the pre-chorus.

Meanwhile, the second verse rather instead Camila alluding to some type of less-than-ideal psychological effects of having been hard in the game “since (she) was fifteen” years old. In the process of doing so, the singer also implies that she does not have any beef with her former Fifth Harmony bandmates, as many people actually believe. In reality, this verse is actually the most metaphorical passage of the song. But overall, the vocalist gives the impression that being a music star isn’t as easy as is generally presumed.

And yes, Camila does successfully put forth that “sometimes”, all of the above has her “feeling like a psychofreak”. As the chorus further goes on to symbolically expound, more specifically it’s as if she at times feels alienated and unstable.
