“Help Me Make It Through The Night” by Tyler Childers

Whom Tyler Childers is singing to is a romantic/sexual interest, and what he’s requesting of her is to ‘help him make it through the night’. Or put more bluntly, the evening is such that Tyler actually needs someone to sleep with.

So whoever this unspecified, prospective addressee/sex partner may be, he has pushed the potential moral ramifications of the two of them hooking up to the back of his mind. More pressing to the vocalist is his aforementioned need – so much so that he has decided to neither take yesterday or tomorrow into consideration in terms of achieving that goal.

“I don’t care who’s right or wrong
And I don’t need to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
‘Cause tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow’s out of sight
It’s so sad to be alone
Oh, help me make it through the night”

This song was actually written by musician/actor Kris Kristofferson, and he was apparently the first one to drop a version of “Help Me Make It Through the Night” back in 1970.  That said, it hit shortly thereafter via a cover rendered by Sammi Smith, which also came out in 1970.

Tyler Childers produced his own cover of “Help Me Make It Through the Night”, in conjunction with his band, The Food Stamps.

Tyler’s version is featured on his album “Rustin’ in the Rain”. The whole project came out through Republic Records and Hickman Holler on 8 September 2023.
