First Verse

At some points, particularly during the first verse, this track arguably reads like a love song. And in that regard the singer seems to be rejoicing the fact that he has hooked up with a special someone. This special someone is perhaps a lady whom he dated in the past and had little hope of being with again.

Second Verse

At other junctures, such as the second verse, he is apparently speaking to the “beautiful dawn” directly. This is where it becomes more apparent that this phrase, which appears throughout the song, is symbolic of the aforementioned experience the singer is going through. And what it can  be likened to, once again, is a feeling tantamount to euphoria or a newfound awakening to the sweetness of life. And this has occurred to the singer as he was going through a deep, pessimistic depression, thus making the occurrence even more appreciable.

Now going back to the romantic storyline, as the song progresses it becomes obvious that said lover – as it can be interpreted – and the “beautiful dawn” are one in the same. So even in the first verse it can be be understood that he is not speaking to another person at all but rather to this transformative joy he is encountering, as in he personifies the “high”.  But if a listener decides to interpret the lyrics more literally, as in James addressing a romantic interest, then being with said person would logically be what is causing him to have this fresh appreciation for and positivity towards life.
