“In My Head” by Lil Tjay

Even though Lil Tjay admits that he “ain’t too big on love”, he has been smitten nonetheless. And with those two concepts in mind, what we are dealing with here is in fact romantic poetry, albeit being relayed by a street-based rapper. So basically, what’s being put forth here is that even though Tjay isn’t the lovey-dovey type, being more concerned with the hustle at this point in his life, still he finds that the addressee, his honeybun, is “in (his) head” in a way that he cannot shake off.

Facts about “In My Head”

This is the first track that Lil Tjay put out during 2022, with “In My Head” officially being released by Columbia Records on 1 April. His most recent LP at that point would be 2021’s “Destined 2 Win”, a project that fared better critically, though not commercially, than his debut studio album, “True 2 Myself” (2019).

Tjay, who hails from the Bronx, is credited with writing this piece alongside eight other individuals. Only two out of the lot, Tarek and Yvng Finxssa, the latter of whom also co-produced the track, appears to have been directly involved in its composition. The others – Sean Kingston, Jason Derulo, J.R. Rotem, Iyaz, Tim Thomas and Theron Thomas – are evidently credited as a result of writing another song which is sampled into “In My Head”. And that would be Iyaz’s 2009 outing “Replay”.

This song went viral during its teasing phase on TikTok, which commenced on 10 March 2022.

The music video to this track was directed by an artist simply identified as Medet, and it is also said to feature a cameo by another up-and-coming rapper (besides Lil Tjay) named Rubi Rose.
