Is Junior H’s “El Azul” Song about a Drug Dealer?

The song in question was certainly inspired by one or multiple drug dealers! Actually the song (“El Azul”) shares its title with a notorious Mexican drug kingpin, Juan José Esparragoza Moreno. Despite raking in mega bucks from his illegal dealings, this guy’s been playing hide and seek with the law for the past 20-odd years (if he’s not pushing up daisies by now).

“El Azul” is the alias of Juan Moreno. This guy was one of the big shots in the Mexican drug trade.

Born in 1949, El Azul made his mark as a top leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most notorious and powerful criminal organizations out there. Prior to that, he cut his teeth in the Guadalajara Cartel. This dude has quite a history in the drug world, right?

He was known for being a peacemaker, which might sound a bit strange when we’re talking about drug cartels. But let’s just say he was good at settling disputes and keeping things from getting too hot between rival groups.

He was reported dead in 2014, but there’s been a lot of doubt about that. Some people think he’s still kicking it, just keeping a low profile. Even the U.S. government isn’t sure; they’ve got a $5 million reward for info leading to his capture.
