“Lady Gaga” by Peso Pluma, Junior H & Gabito Ballesteros

Concurrent with Double P Records releasing “Lady Gaga” on 23 June 2023, Peso Pluma may be considered the trendiest Mexican artist that the music industry has to offer. For example, he has been nominated for a whopping nine awards as this year’s Premios Juventud (as presented by Univision), and earlier this year the remix of his track La Bebé was named Remix of the Year at the Premios Tu MĂşsica Urbano.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Peso Pluma, Junior H & Gabito Ballesteros's Lady Gaga at Lyrics.org.

Also to note, the aforementioned Double P Records is actually his own indie label. And this song is featured on Pluma’s album “Genesis”, which was released at the same time as the track and appears to be one of the more anticipated Latin albums of the year.

The co-headliners of this song, Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H, likewise hail from Mexico. Both have teamed up with Peso Pluma on a few occasions in the past. And it is Gabito who, besides acting as a vocalist, also produced this track (“Lady Gaga”), in addition to co-writing it with another musician known as El Chachito.

THE (THEORETICAL) MEANING OF “PESO PLUMA”

According to Google, the term Peso Pluma translates to “Featherweight”. However, some Spanish speakers also use the word “pluma” to denote a pen. Additionally, “peso” is the name of the official currency in some parts of the world, including Mexico.

So with that in mind, it seems that the rapper’s moniker, translated into English, would be along the lines of “Money Pen”, i.e. someone who generates cash via his writing skills.

THE LYRICS OF “LADY GAGA”

We’re working with a couple of, shall we say informal translations of this song, which is rendered completely in Spanish, so presumably some lyrical intricacies got lost along the way. But it’s still pretty obvious that the wording is primarily made up of wealth-based braggadocio, i.e. the type you would expect from mainstream hip-hop artists.

There are also a couple of references to drugs, including “cocaine” and “tussi” being mentioned in the first verse – apparently as substance Junior H and the gang partake of – as well as what read like allusions to the vocalists’ street formidability.

Also, as is standard in these types of tracks, the homeys seem to depict themselves as having a way with the ladies. For example, as far as the title is concerned, by the looks of things Peso Pluma is not literally referring to the singer Lady Gaga but rather a lady he’s interacting with at a social venue who resembles her.

And he goes on to further note that the women he prefers are those who are genuinely interested, not the types who would for instance post their interactions with the star on Instagram.

“Dom PĂ©rignon, Lady Gaga, lentes en la cara, tussi y lavada
Triple lavada, y una bandida que me llama, quieren mi lana
Y no está mal, porque me seduce como animal
Ninguna sube nada al Instagram, solo disfrutan, solo disfrutan”
