Meaning of “Karma” by Queen Naija

In simple words, the word karma refers to the universal law of cause and effect. This law, which is believed to govern the universe, is what makes people get what they give (or rather reap what they sow). If you sow good seeds, you reap positive things. However, if you sow bad seeds, bad things come your way. This is basically what karma is all about. And in the lyrics of Queen Naija’s “Karma”, she focuses entirely on this theme (reaping what one has sowed).

In the song, Naija directly addresses her ex lover, who broke her heart. What hurt Naija most is the fact that she loved him and always stood by his side through rough times. However, when the good times came, he wasted no time in dumping her and going for someone else. Naija, apparently got very hurt by the actions of her ex, wishes that life ends up paying him in his own coin. Simply put, she prays that the bad things he did to her come back to haunt him.

Are the lyrics of this track autobiographical?

Yes, they are. Naija is actually addressing a man she once dated in real life. She had earlier addressed this man in a previous song of hers titled “Medicine”. In a Genius interview, Queen Naija described this song as a very personal one.

According to Naija, she is a strong believer of the phrase: “what goes around, comes around”. It is for this reason that she’s sure that her ex, who hurt her, would get what he deserves at the end of the day.
