Intro

Big Sean starts the song expressing how he knew his significant other was ‘the one’ the moment he laid eyes on her. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the same case for his partner then, as she tried to “diss” him until she realised he was “someone (she) could talk to”. This took much perseverance on Sean’s part, probably due to the fact that the addressee had been in multiple bad relationships before. With her eventually falling for him, he tells her that her exes should not be bugging her anymore.

Verse 1

Queen Naija follows up by showcasing her crazy love for her partner. Like any relationship, she too faces up and downs, sometimes resulting in not “seeing eye to eye”. But she doesn’t quit on her partner as her life is pretty much meaningless without him.

Pre-Chorus & Chorus

Sometimes, the toxicity in a relationship may not be derived from the people involved in it but from the external parties. We see over here that these external parties are like parasites preying on their relationship and “won’t be satisfied until (they) break up”.

Verse 2

Naija goes on to say the stuff these parasites do, which are ridiculous. Making stories up that her partner is cheating on her or that he’s just with her for her influence. While it brings about some comedy to their relationship as they’re able to laugh it off together, it puzzles Naija as to why people would do such a thing. This feeling is relatable to anyone who have been/are in such a situation. There are a myriad of reasons as to why people do this – possibly out of boredom, jealousy or one could be interested in either of the parties in the relationship, and the list goes on.

Bridge

Here, Sean disses external parties who’s only aim is to destroy both the narrators’ relationships and what being in his current relationship has taught him. He reaches his limit where he doesn’t pay heed to what these parasites say anymore. Sean interlinks his personal experience with current partner, Jhené Aiko and how they weren’t there when her brother died of a brain tumor. In fact, he was there with her throughout the time and even at his funeral. We see that, just like any ordinary person, Sean wants to have a future with his partner and “never need divorce”.

Takeaway

All in all, both Naija and Sean choose to remain happy in their respective relationship and not let the haters get in the middle of this happiness.

As I feel that this track brings about a 90s vibe personally, it is interesting to note that I’m not the only one. Fans on YouTube have commented that this track just hits differently (as compared to modern R&B), and it’s an absolute banger.

Another shared that the song makes her love her fiancé even more as even after having 2 kids and the rollercoaster rides, they know their love could never be replaced.
