“Song About You” is a song written and performed by American recording artist Mike Posner. The words of this tune center on the aftermath of the end of a romantic relationship between the singer and his partner. In the song, the narrator unsuccessfully tries to forget about his ex-lover and carry on with his life. He sings about not wanting to write a song about her. But ironically, he ends up writing this very song about her.

The tune was inspired by dark times in Posner’s life

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Posner said the song basically reflects how he felt during a pretty dark chapter he had to deal with. According to him, the song was inspired by the anger he felt after losing certain precious things and people in his life. He mentioned a breakup with a girlfriend and the deaths of his father and his good friend DJ/music producer Avicii as the losses that birthed this track. It is important to mention that Avicii committed suicide on April 20, 2018. He was only 28 years old. Posner put the angst he felt from his loss right into this song. During his Beats 1 interview, he said he became a “better human” after creating “Song About You”.
