“More to the Story” by Lil Wayne (ft. Raekwon)

This is the type of storytelling rap which Raekwon in particular is famous for. The narrative starts off being centered on a prosperous and wild drug dealer. What we can say makes him wild in particular is that he has the tendency to draw too much attention.  Indeed his “traphouse”, i.e. the location where he sells drugs, is eventually raided by a group of armed robbers. This results in not only the dealer apparently being shot but also a number of other occupants of the residence. Then the police show up, and another shootout occurs in which a couple of the robbers are killed also. And ultimately the moral of the story seemingly reads something like if a person decides to take up a life of crime, he or she will likely meet a similar fate.

Meanwhile concerning the title, Lil Wayne is saying that there’s even “more to the story” than the plethora of details expounded upon in the lyrics. But even concerning the tale that has been told, it would behoove the listener not to repeat it. Or looked at alternatively, Weezy and Rae are presenting themselves as individuals who have inside information on what went down – the type of sensitive intelligence you wouldn’t want to be heard repeating. Indeed in the second verse Raekwon comes off as if he and his cohort are amongst the aforementioned robbers themselves.
