“One Less Day (Dying Young)” by Rob Thomas

Singer Rob Thomas’ “One Less Day (Dying Young)” is based on a very-understandable concept. Truth be told, there is only one alternative to dying. And this is a fact that Rob himself has picked up on. Or put differently, he understands that he is no longer the ideal age to be a professional pop musician. However, the vocalist still very much relishes life.

For example, he realizes he has made some terrible mistakes that he would ‘take back’ if he could. However, Rob still appreciates having lived another day. Indeed he has witnessed “friends fall away before their time” and knows that in the grand scheme of things no one, including himself, is promised tomorrow.

So Thomas understands that he is “one less day from dying young”. This is basically a metaphor for the singer gradually getting older. But this reality, once again, does not bother him. For succinctly put, he would rather grow old than to die prematurely.
