Meaning of “Punto 40” by Rauw Alejandro and Baby Rasta
As more plainly revealed in the chorus of the original, 1990s’ version of “Punto 40”, the “40” being referred to in the title would be a .40 caliber handgun. But making that observation is not to imply that in “Punto 40”, Alejandro and Rasta don’t do a good job themselves of getting the same point across. To the contrary, the first two verses of this piece are soundly dedicated to the pair depicting themselves as dudes who will resort to the gat if so compelled.
In the first verse, Rauw seems to be challenging opps who have grown envious of him with gun violence.
In the second verse Baby Rasta proceeds to mock likeminded individual, empowered in his taunts by the fact that he’s rolling with the most-beautiful woman in the house. And whereas his short verse isn’t as hostile as Alejandro’s, he does go about letting be known that he will kill a dude for touching her.
After setting that tone, “Punto 40” does become more romantic, or let’s more specifically say sexual in nature. In other words, the entire song, except for the third verse, more or less revolves around gunplay. But in this passage, Rauw especially goes about detailing what we will take as his idealized sexual encounter. And that would apparently include some hard banging on the vocalist’s behalf, and let’s say some ingesting on the part of his partner.
