“Roses” by SAINt JHN

On this track, the word “roses” reads like a general expression which Saint Jhn uses to celebrate himself. And fundamentally, despite the unusual terminology used, he comes off like your quintessential rap artist. For instance, he brags about his ability to pick up women at will. And he also references his street-thug homeys. And overall he is presenting himself as a wild type of guy. So basically this song uses some poetic (one could say even religious) symbolism. But in terms of its actual meaning, it appears to be more or less your average rap tune.

July 22nd, 2016 was the original release date of this Saint Jhn track. Two years later, the song made it into Saint’s “Collection One” album. Since then, multiple remixes of the song have been made and released.

“Roses” didn’t really blow up until some three years after it was released, upon being remixed by a DJ from Kazakhstan. Said DJ is named Imanbek Zeykenov and it was the success of this remix that turned him into an overnight global star.

Saint penned this song with an artist and producer named Fallen. Fallen is also its only credited producer.

Saint Jhn was slated to film the music video to the remix of “Roses”, this time featuring A-list rapper Future, around the same time that the George Floyd protests began rocking American society. And he opted to instead donate the budget for the video to bailing out some protesters who were incarcerated as part of the movement.

The remix made by Imanbek was so successfully it flew to the number 1 spot in several nations such as the following:

In the United States (i.e. on the Hot 100), it debuted at position 14. It also topped the official singles charts in the United Kingdom. Simply put, it became one of the biggest songs of 2019 and 2020.
