The simplest way to describe Akon and Eminem’s “Smack That” is as it being set in a club. Thus the vocalists would be patrons of the establishment, and the female addressee(s) would be one of its dancers. This scenario is made most clear by Eminem, one of the best lyricists in the game, during his verse. And fundamentally, the concept that Akon is asserting is that he does in fact intend to have bedroom intimacy with the addressee. In other words, he would like to “smack that” [behind].

This is the lead single from Akon’s commercially successful second album, which he labeled “Konvicted”.

This was actually Akon and Eminem’s first ever musical collaboration. The pair went on to team-up again on the remix of Lloyd Bank’s 2010 track “Celebrity”.

“Smack That” was a huge, international hit, peaking at number 2 on the most coveted music chart in the world, the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore “Smack That” went on to hit position 1 on the coveted UK Singles Chart. And outside of the US and UK, it also charted in 20 other countries, in addition to reaching Platinum status in 7 nations.

September 26th, 2006 was this hit’s official date of release.

Akon alongside Em penned this hit single with writers M. Strange and Luis Resto. Em acted as the song’s sole producer.

“Smack That” was so successful that it actually received a Grammy nomination.
