“Something Special” by Pop Smoke

Perhaps “Something Special” would be more-accurately named ‘someone special’, as whom Pop Smoke is applying the titular attribute to is actually an individual. And said person is a romantic interest. More to the point, she is someone whom the rapper deems to be superior to the other women he has dealt with in that regard. 

So accordingly, the lyrics of the song focus on various ways in which he admires her, i.e. serving as a reflection of his deep feelings for her

This track interpolates a 2003 song entitled “Into You (Remix)” which is by Fabolous featuring Tamia. As such both of those artists are credited as co-writers of “Something Special”. Moreover three of the track’s other writers – Lionel Richie, Time Kelly and Ronald LaPread – are also acknowledged. And said song’s producers, DJ Clue and Ken “Duro” Ifill also receive songwriting credits. 

Duro Ifill also produced “Something Special”. And finally, Pop Smoke is the last credited co-writer of this song.

“Something Special” was released on 3 July 2020 via Victor Victor and Republic Records.  It is part of Pop Smoke’s first studio album, “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon”.
