“Still Feel Like Your Man” by John Mayer
It is pretty obvious on “Still Feel Like Your Man” that John Mayer is addressing an ex. In fact he has stated explicitly that it is about fellow pop star Katy Perry, whom he had dated for at least two years prior to this track’s release. And the sentiment he is putting forth isn’t a complex one at all. Rather what he is saying is that he ‘still feels like her man’, which translated into plain language means that he still misses her. And as such, even though he comes off as someone who doesn’t have any problem attracting women for the time being he is playing it cool in terms of dating.
No, he may not be heartbroken in the truest sense of the word, as in a state of emotional devastation or pleading with his ex to come back. But he is finding it challenging to move on without her nonetheless.
John Mayer and Katy Perry
Music icons Mayer and Perry were involved in an on-and-off relationship which lasted between 2012 and 2014. The relationship is reported to have gone through different phases since they allegedly broke up thrice. The first breakup happened in August 2012. The second occurred in March 2013. Finally the third took place in February 2014.
It was even rumored that they may have been engaged during the period since Katy was seen wearing three different diamond rings. They both never confirmed whether they were engaged at a point, nor revealed details surrounding their split.
In August 2013, John and Katy released a pop ballad titled ‘Who You Love”, which seemed to capture the terms of their love affair and a few challenges they faced. Following their split, Mayer publicly admitted that he wrote the song, “Still Feel Like Your Man” in 2017, primarily because of his ex-girlfriend Perry.
“Save as Draft” by Katy Perry was also released in 2017 talking about an ex and considering to get in touch with him. Her fans have widely speculated that “Save As Draft” is likely about her past relationship with Mayer.
