Khalid and John Mayer approach “Outta My Head” as guys who are singing to a love interest. The romance in and of itself has not commenced. But ideally from their perspective it will do so in the near future is definitely “in the air”.

In other words, they are constantly thinking about this lady, possibly to the point of obsession or bringing about some undesirable mental state. And when she is around physically, she makes the day more beautiful. So the ultimate conclusion boils down to it being preferable to have her around on a regular basis and ideally as a girlfriend. But until that day happens, thoughts of her are likely to continue to dominate their thinking.

• “Outta My Head” was released on the 5th of April 2019. Its production was done by John Hill, DIGI, and John Mayer. Owing to this, Khalid, Aarons and Chammas are the only co-writers of the track who didn’t play a role in its production.
