“Sweet” by Melt
“Sweet” is the title of a 2022 song brought to us by the English band Melt. In this post, the band’s drummer Jack Wilson sits down with us to talk about “Melt”, which by the way is the band’s first single in 2 years. The song is a part of their second EP titled ‘Engine’.
What is the meaning of the song “Sweet”?
It could actually mean a few things… I couldn’t pinpoint it really. The lyrics were written in the moment and what came out seemed to click to the feel of the track. It’s all open to interpretation.
How was the songwriting process?
Sam sent Dewey and I the original idea which was a pretty rough job. We finished the structure in a rehearsal room before putting the proper demo together. After that, we chipped away at the loose ends until we were all somewhat content. Then Sam completed the vocals for it.
Sam wrote all the lyrics after the demo was recorded. I think some of them were written in rehearsals and we had some pre-planned stuff too.
Have you shot a music video for “Sweet “?
The video was shot inside The Biscuit Tin Studios at Warwick Street near where we live. We pretty much directed all of it but we had a good friend come down to shoot it for us. We edited the video ourselves, that’s why it probably looks a bit weird.

How long did it take you to work on the single?
Way too long. We ran up a large tab at Blank.
Writing and Production Credits
“Sweet” was written by the band’s vocalist Sam Avery. The production of the song, on the other hand, was taken care of by all the members of the band. Talking about the song’s production, Jack said it happened in “in a disorganized fashion“.
“We all had some ideas of how we wanted the song to translate and applied those to the track in some way. I wouldn’t call ourselves producers really.”
The Band Melt
Melt is a heavy grunge rock trio from Newcastle Upon Tyne. With influences from bands such as Deftones, Helmet, and Sprung monkey. The trio, which was formed in 2018, is made up of the following members:
