SHAED’s “Melt” Lyrics Meaning

As you have likely already deduced from the title, this song is very symbolic in nature. And the titular metaphor is based on the singer’s desire to “melt”.  Within the context of the lyrics, this is meant to point to the her longing to free herself from entities which are trying to control her actions as an artist.  In other words, she is being stifled by individuals who are giving her instructions on how to conduct herself in the name of the game. And due to the way she resultantly feels constricted, she is likening the experience to being “frozen in ice”. So the title is based on her “wish” to “melt” said ice, as in be free from all of these restrictions which are being placed on her.

And of course the underlying sentiment is that having her creativity undermined and actions controlled in order to appeal to a larger audience is making the singer unhappy. And according to her own words, this is something that Chelsea Lee actually went through until her bandmates and family member, Spencer and Max Ernst, helped her overcome the situation.  So we know that at the end of the day she came out of this ordeal alright. But it also quite evident that at a particular point in time, external pressures took their toll on the singer.

Conclusion

So in addition to being a historical account, perhaps we can also take “Melt” as a glimpse into the inner workings of the music industry. For other pop artists have likewise dropped tunes based on being compelled to compromise their personality or creativeness. And all things considered, some of them may also be cool with this aspect of their profession. But at the end of the day we can say that Chelsea (and by extension SHAED) is not such an individual.  For if nothing else, we know that if she feels constricted she will at least voice out, i.e. this song.
