Tyga’s “Lightskin Lil Wayne” Lyrics Meaning
By observing the title of this track in addition to being knowledgeable of the history between Tyga and fellow rap superstar Lil Wayne, it is easy to conclude that it is a tribute song to the latter. In other words, Tyga is dubbing himself the “Lightskin Lil Wayne”. What this means is that he’s taking on Tunechi’s persona, while simultaneously acknowledging the fact that his skin complexion is a couple of shades lighter than Weezy’s.
But the content of the track is not a direct tribute to Lil Wayne. Actually Tyga only mentions his name in the chorus. What the track is actually centered on, as fans of Tyga could have already guessed, is Tyga himself and more specifically his wealth, career success and fun adventures with women. So in a roundabout way, what he actually seems to be alluding to is the idea that his riches, celebrity and lifestyle are comparable to those of Lil Wayne.
The intro and outro to the song actually feature brief statements from Lil Wayne, i.e. a sample of him having a conversation with someone. And what Weezy is basically saying is that he is more interested in working than partying. So in addition to his overall success and eccentricity, obviously another the aspect of Lil Wayne’s personality which Tyga wishes to highlight, perhaps even more than the others, is his work ethic.

Yes, he has. Shortly after the song’s release, Wayne publicly expressed appreciation to Tyga for honoring him the way he did in this song and its accompanying clip. It should be noted that Wayne was instrumental in helping guide Tyga into whom he helped guide into superstardom (i.e. mentored) for.
