“Why We Ever” by Hayley Williams

It is very much likely that Hayley Williams is speaking to a romantic interest on “Why We Ever”. However, it can also be interpreted as another type of really-close friend. And the titular question is based on her pondering why they decided to terminate their association. Or stated alternatively, she misses her friendship/relationship with this individual. And the implication is that they do sometimes communicate but do not actually do so face-to-face anymore. So now Hayley is apologizing for “freaking out”, i.e. her own personal actions which contributed to the strength of their union deteriorating.  And all sentiments considered, what is ultimately being said is that she wants to make up with this person.
