“Ain’t It Funny (Murder Remix)” by Jennifer Lopez (ft. Ja Rule and Caddillac Tah)

Dealing with an ex-lover post-breakup can be a funny experience, especially when one has undergone a positive transformation or found someone better. In this case, Lopez seems to have done both. This brings Rule to try to get back with her.

He first sexualizes her by saying her behind is what got his attention and, in a way, commands her to get back with him as he says he calls the shots.

Obviously, it doesn’t make Lopez cave in but instead, allows her to call him out by stating facts that if he hadn’t played her, things wouldn’t have come to this. Furthermore, she sees him as “kind of lame” now.

She goes on to say how she tried to prevent the breakup, but he chose to walk away. It can be seen as a form of pay-back/karma that Rule is trying to call out to Lopez but she’s walking away from him. The loneliness he faces is evident but it’s not going to change Lopez’s mind.

He ultimately tries the next best move – buying gifts and making her reminisce the good ol’ times. Lopez drops a connection to one of her other hits “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” in her basically telling him that he can’t buy love. All his tries end up looking nothing more like a comedy as she can sit back and laugh at his newfound commitment, albeit it being too late now.

In the end, Lopez tries to reach a middle ground in wanting to form friendships between the four of them – Lopez, Rule, and their respective partners. It’s funny how this simple last bridge shows us that Rule remains a player as while he’s probably seeing someone, he’s trying to get back with Lopez.
