To note, during its early goings Del Water Gap was a group but since then has been a solo project – held down by its founder, Samuel Holden Jaffe – for over a decade now. This act has a discography dating all the way back to 2012, as well as one studio album, a self-titled effort that came out in 2021 via Mom + Pop Music.

The Lyrics of “All We Ever Do Is Talk”

On one hand the title of this song is literal, pointing to the notion that the relationship between the vocalist and addressee has evolved to a point whereas now ‘all they ever do is talk’. But as implied throughout, that reality isn’t actually a good thing.

For starters, the two parties involved are in a romantic relationship. And what the title is apparently meant to indicate is that back in the days, there was actually some physical intimacy between two. But now, they spend all of their time together engaged in conversation.

Furthermore, as strongly implied in the pre-chorus, it isn’t that loving, confidence-building type of talk. Instead, let’s say this reads like one of those situations where what’s being relayed back and forth between the lovers is akin to negative-minded redundancies. Or put otherwise, the romance at hand has moved well past its euphoric stage, to the point where the vocalist is even left baffled as to how it has developed so.

So now what he is longing for, most simply put, is a good, sound bonking. However, such a desire isn’t really about physical gratification. Rather, he and his sweetheart’s ability to engage in such an act would mean that, contrary to how things currently appear on the surface, the spark between them is still there.

“To meeting you at the hotel, 3AM
Pull the belt from your robe, pushing me on the bed
It was good, it was good, didn’t know what it meant
Will we ever get that feeling again?
With your back on the wall, pulling off my suit
You could hear us from the hallway, flipping the room
It was good, it was good, didn’t want it to end
Will we ever get that feeling again?”
