“Between Us” by Little Mix
We’re not saying that the two are directly correlated, but it is interesting to note that “Between Us” is very close in sentiment to another track that came out of the UK region on the exact same day, Westlife’s “My Hero“. For herein we also witness a vocalist celebrating her relationship with a devoted, ever-present loved one. Also, the exact nature of this relationship – whether it be romantic, familial, a friendship or what have you – is never specified.
However in this case, the emphasis isn’t necessarily on the vital role the addressee plays in the vocalist’s life but rather the bond that exists “between” them. And if we were forced to speculate, the lyrics do come off as if they point more to a friendship than any other type of union.
Or let’s say that even if the addressee is a relative or spouse of the vocalist’s, their association is more defined by a genuine, loving bond than blood or a contract. Indeed they have been “through the fire” and share a notable “history” together. And sharing such a past has fostered a high level of resiliency and strength amongst the pair.
So as it currently stands, under the vocalist’s estimation there is ‘nothing that can come between them’. And again, she is celebrating being part of such a special, lasting bond.
Little Mix and “Between Us”
Little Mix very recently went from being a quartet, as they had been since their formation in 2011, to a trio consisting solely of the following:
- Perrie Edwards
- Leigh-Anne Pinnock
- Jade Thirlwall
So that may explain why their LP, Between Us, stands as their first greatest hits’ project as opposed to a studio album.
But to note Little Mix did just release a studio album in late-2020, just a year prior to the slated issuance of Between Us, with the group’s fourth original member, Jesy Nelson, in tow. And according to some reports, the Between Us album is actually in recognition of the act’s 10th anniversary.
“Between Us” is a Little Mix compilation album alright, but it’ll also feature a handful of new tracks. And one of those five new songs is itself entitled “Between Us”. It was issued as the second single from the project on 5 November 2021. And to note, the label behind this effort is RCA Records.
The first teasing of this track dates back to May of 2021, via Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s personal Instagram account. And to note, this song (as well as the other new tracks from the compilation album) reportedly leaked about three weeks prior to its official release date.
The three current members of Little Mix are credited as co-writers of this track. And in that regard they are joined by MNEK, Jin Jin and tune’s producer, Tré Jean-Marie.
