“Billie Bossa Nova” by Billie Eilish
The bossa nova is a type of dance, originating in mid-20th century Brazil actually. And the reason this track is entitled so is because it utilizes a similar type of rhythmic style. So, the title apparently has nothing to do with the narrative featured therein.
Rather what the lyrics center on, most notably, is a downlow relationship the vocalist is in. And when we say downlow, we mean a romance that she and the other party involved are going through great lengths to keep from the public eye, even if doing so is akin to a ‘torturous’ experience on said individual.
Now before the rumor mills get to churning let it be known that, according to Finneas, “Billie Bossa Nova” is a work of fiction. Well actually it is founded in reality, albeit a non-romantic one. And that is the fact that when he and Billie go on tour, they do have to go through considerable lengths in the name of dodging paparazzi.
So basically they took that same reality – being compelled to take hotel freight elevators as opposed to those reserved for the public for instance – and it into a romantic context.
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish already launched a more overt attack against paparazzi on another Happier Than Ever track, that being “OverHeated“. So it seems that this time around she wanted to have more fun with that less-than-favorable aspect of her celebrity, i.e. being hounded by photographers and what have you.
Indeed as far as the internet is concerned, she is currently dating an actor named Matthew Vorce and not in a secretive kind of way.

The aforementioned Finneas, who also happens to be Billie Eilish’s older brother, co-wrote this song with her. Moreover, he is the producer of the track. In fact another reason it is entitled “Billie Bossa Nova” is because that is what he personally dubbed the instrumental, which he submitted to Billie back in 2019.
Date of Release
The full track, vocals and all, went on to be released on 30 July 2021. It was done so via the labels that the currently 19 year old Billie Eilish has been signed to for the last five years. And the labels in question are: Darkroom Records and Interscope Records.
The track is featured on her second full-length studio album. The entire project is entitled “Happier Than Ever”. It birthed the singles below:
