“Bout My Business” by YoungBoy Never Broke Again (ft. Sherhonda Gaulden)

This is a family-centric track by NBA YoungBoy.  In fact it features a conversation with his grandfather in the intro. And his mother, Sherhonda Gaulden, drops a verse. But as for YoungBoy’s verse, in a way it’s like his mom isn’t even present. That is to say he goes about threatening opps and the such as usual, though it can also be argued that he is tad subdued. For instance, in this particular case, whereas the overall theme of the track can be deemed his come-up (i.e. NBA being ‘about his business’), he doesn’t harp on his wealth per se that much.

Meanwhile his mom’s comes off as you would expect, expressing her commitment to her son as well as giving shoutouts to whom are likely other members of their family, i.e. his siblings. Both she and he also lovingly reference NBA’s late grandmother.

So this song operates along two motifs at once. As expected YoungBoy is keeping it ‘hood. But at the same time he is acknowledging the influence his family has had in his stability and also uses the economic hardships they once faced as motivation.
