“Euphoria/Stuntin’ Like My Daddy/Vibes” by Labrinth

This track uses a lot of quirky language and seems to delve into a number of topics including substance usage, social media, street life and being on the move. However, the idea it seems to be primarily based on is the person whom Labrinth is singing about being a gun-toting hustler. That is to say that Labrinth portrays this individual (whom he sometimes refers to in the first person) as one who carries a “gat”, “run(s) game”, isn’t afraid to get into beef and has possibly even committed a murder. And overall it would appear as if he is engaged in a dangerous lifestyle in general.

Song’s Title

As far as the name of the track, it has three different titles based on different attributes people have given to it since, apparently upon its release, it had no official name. It rose to fame due to being featured on the television show Euphoria, thus its first title.

The second title, “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy”, actually appears to be a misnomer. That is to say that some have mistaken the particular episode of Euphoria this track was featured on to have that name.  However, the episode of show which is entitled “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” is seemingly named after a track of the same name by  Birdman and Lil Wayne which was actually featured on that episode.

Finally the song received its third title, “Vibes”, due to the fact that a snippet of it from the first episode of the show was posted onto the Euphoria YouTube channel and given that name. However, it should be noted that Labrinth is one of the most featured artists on the show. And in fact their YouTube channel released snippets of two different songs by him which were featured on the first episode, both of which they entitled “Vibes”.

“Euphoria” and other Titles are Applicable

Either way, the reason all of these names stuck is probably because they are all, to varying degrees, applicable. The subject of the song can be said to be in a state of “euphoria” since from the early “morning” we see that there “ain’t a pill that (he) didn’t take”. Likewise it can be argued that he is also “stuntin’”, as in trying to show off, though there’s no clear indication of such. But within a broader context, it can argued that the second title alludes to him living a street life similar to his father. But perhaps more than any other the third title is applicable, as the sound of the song as well as its lyrics indicate that the singer/addressee is definitely vibing, as in being caught up in his own personal mental zone.

Either way the subject of this song is definitely an interesting individual who seems to derive joy from things other people commonly like, such as enjoying substances and social media. But at the same time it seems as if he can end up dead or incarcerated at a moment’s notice. In fact some parts of the song actually read as if Labrinth is advising this person (who again may be himself) to alter the course of his life.
