The lyrics of Laura Les’ “Haunted” are very much image based and as such can be interpreted in a number of ways. But Laura has clarified that what this piece is actually about is being “overwhelmed by a feeling” and how such sensation “changes things around you”.
That foreknowledge of this song’s intent makes the lyrics easier to understand as intended.
For instance, it becomes more obvious that the vocalist is consumed by her own thoughts at a time when she appears mistrustful of the outside world. Moreover, it is sorta implied that said disposition may be founded in the narrator suffering from self-esteem issues.
And delving even deeper into the realm of postulation, we can put forth that said issues are perhaps the result – as self-esteem matters usually are – of Laura’s dealings with others. In any event for whatever reason the vocalist is under the impression that she’s “f–king stupid” and “useless”, which serves as the basis of this whole tirade, if you will.
That said, Laura has also clarified that this song isn’t intended to be deep psychologically or anything like that. Apparently more to the intended point is how an unshakeable sentiment can cause the person who is overtaken by it to view the entire world around them differently.
So in this case, it appears to be the vocalist’s damaged self-esteem which has caused her to conclude that “everything is haunted”.

Laura Les is a singer who made a name for herself as one half of 100 Gecs, a musical duo from Missouri. Whereas she has dabbled in solo music in the past, by the looks of things “Haunted” officially stands as her first proper single.
Reportedly, this is a song that Laura debuted during a show in late 2020. And it was only after fans petitioned that it be released that it was officially released as a single.
Haunted‘s official date of release was 12 March 2021.
“Haunted” achieved additional notoriety when it was featured on the second episode of the second season of Euphoria. Euphoria is a popular teen-based HBO series.
To note Laura Les, who both wrote and produced Haunted, is actually a transgender female.
