“Hurts So Good” by The Paper Kites

The lyrics of “Hurts So Good” aren’t necessarily the easiest to make comprehensive sense of. But it appears that they are philosophical in nature, and the concept they speak to is along the lines of life being such that you have to “take a little pain” in addition to “(giving) a little love”.

And that may be one way of making sense out of the thesis sentiment of this track, that the thesis sentiment of “it hurts so good” pointing to the notion of the vocalist having learned to take things in stride instead of giving in to a negativity mind state. And that also appears to be what the first verse is more or less speaking to, i.e. Sam exhibiting resiliency in the face of adversity.

“‘Cause it hurts so good
And it hurts so good
Over my head, out of my mind
We turn and we keep on burnin’
‘Cause it hurts so good”
