“Midnight Moon”

The way Sam Bentley has described this song is as initially being inspired by sort of an idyllic dive bar he imagined in his head. However, that fantasy turned out to be a reality, i.e. he and the band putting together their own bar in Australia and then proceeding to stage a residency there.

The said facility was dubbed The Roadhouse, which is where the title of the album was derived from.

So the lyrics can also be taken as part fantasy and part reality. And what they revolve around more or less is Sam advertising “a place that we can go”. The said place, which is characterized by the following:

  • “girls… wearing a smile”
  • “slow dancing under a midnight moon”

At the end of the day, it would seem, that this place has an effectively-romantic setting.

“Dreams, baby
And [?] love
And slow dancing
Under a midnight moon”
