But what the narrative actually centers on is the singer addressing her significant other, who also happens to be the titular “lazy baby”.  And fans have more or less concluded that said individual would be one Thomas Doherty, a fellow actor she dated for four years and just broke up with fresh in October of 2020.

But who exactly “lazy baby” is in real life isn’t specified in the lyrics, even though Dove has implied that he is in fact a real person.  Rather what the wording focuses on is the singer’s perception of this individual and how his actions – or lack thereof – have negatively affected their relationship.

Characteristics of “Lazy Baby”

Indeed he possesses a real lackadaisical attitude as far as their relationship is concerned. He is ‘loving her lazy’, as Cameron creatively puts it.

Contrastingly, she is ‘killing herself’ in the name of edifying him. This includes, as implied by the second verse, actually feeding him, as dude doesn’t want to work. But in true sluggish love fashion, he doesn’t even care about her efforts. Indeed the way this attitude of his is manifest practically is not only by him being idle but also not appreciating his caring girlfriend.

Well, as Dove reveals in the intro, she has “way too many options” to settle for an indolent lover. Or put alternatively there are other dudes who want to get with her. By virtue of this, she feels she doesn’t have to tolerate this type of romantic disparity.

Indeed the singer has a very high self-esteem. She even goes as far as deeming herself as “a queen”. She knows her worth, even if lazy baby’s words sometimes try to minimize it.

Moreover, as illustrated in the bridge, he has made promises to her that he can’t keep. The way she metaphorically phrases such commitments, maybe they were in regards to his lovemaking prowess, or perhaps it is generally in terms of pledging to make her life better.

But either way he has failed. And combined with all the other gripes she has about him, things aren’t looking good as far as the future of their romance goes.

Conclusive Sentiment of “LazyBaby”

And along those lines, the conclusive sentiment of this track is fundamentally that the narrator has had enough of the shenanigans and wants “lazy baby” to bounce.

And judging by the title and all, yes, there is an intentionally-humorous element to the narrative at hand. But reading in-between the lines, this is a very-serious subject matter, with the vocalist more or less implying that she was emotionally abused and to some extent even deceived.

However, at the same time there is sort of this underlying notion that maybe if he cleans up his act, she will allow him to stay. After all, she has clearly vested a lot in this relationship. But for the most part her mind is made up.

“Lazy baby” had his chance and like totally blew it. So her feelings for him have flown out the window, and she likewise wants him to jump in an Uber and go his way.
