Lyrics of “Boy X”

Beforehand, the vocalist carried herself as a ‘tough’ girl. In other words, she reasoned that the best defense against having your heart broken is not falling in love in the first place. But alas, one day she crossed path with “boy x”. Now the implication is that the reason she terms him so is because, in the grand scheme of things, he’s just a normal guy. But in the eyes of the vocalist specifically, “he was one of a kind”.

And to make a long story short, said individual proceeded used Tate’s smittenness to his own ends. That is to say that the addressee put the vocalist under the impression that he was committed, and she thoroughly believed him. Furthermore, it’s like the signs were there beforehand, i.e. his wandering eye. But, it would appear that at the time, the vocalist was too young and naïve to properly understand what such actions symbolized. And verily, by the looks of things he proceeded to date other women on the low and then eventually dump Tate.

So now, what she’s telling him is that treating a romantic interest so is in fact doing the person dirty. So the next time a girl falls for him, he shouldn’t put her under the impression that he’s faithful, when in reality he isn’t.

Conclusion

So with this outing, Tate McRae has revealed that this piece is in fact true to her experience. And it should be noted that unlike on some of the other songs found on her “I Used to Think I Could Fly” album, in this case she isn’t telling her ex good riddance. But that said, it’s not like she’s expressing a desire to have him back either. Instead, she is letting this person know, plain and simple, that the way he treated her wasn’t right.
