“Let You Go” by Joshua Bassett

Joshua Bassett’s “Let You Go” is more or less your standard breakup song centered on an individual, the vocalist, who is peacefully parting ways with who would now be his ex. The only funny thing, if you will, about this narrative is that you have a singer himself who is only 20 years old breaking up with an agemate while concurrently talking about how things were ‘since they were young’.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Joshua Bassett's Let You Go at Lyrics.org.

But we feel where Joshua is coming from. After all, being heartbroken doesn’t really have an age limit. And that would actually be the thesis sentiment of this piece, that the vocalist is in his feelings due to having to part ways with the addressee, even though based on the television show this song is derived from it appears that they did so amicably.

“Let You Go”

And as far as the title goes, it’s premised on the idea of Bassett being able to perceive that this relationship has run its course. Thus he feels he ‘has to let her go’, apparently for her own good.

And as far as secondary sentiment, we can say that he is expressing something like an appreciation for the romance having transpired in the first place.

We can also conclude that he did not actually want the breakup to happen, initially being under the impression that the love between he and the addressee would last forever. But now that it has indeed expired, he isn’t blaming her or anything like that. Rather he knows that headed into the immediate future his main responsibility, as far as emotions go, is to recuperate from losing the woman he loves. For as put forth earlier, he is not walking away because he wants to. Rather he feels that at this point he really has no choice.
