“Lying Down” by Celine Dion

In this track the songstress is speaking from the perspective of a lady who is freshly on the verge of departing from a toxic relationship. We can conclude that this union is indeed poisonous to her well being because the title is based on the fact that she is no longer privy to taking the associated abuse “lying down”.

That’s another way of Celine saying that the situation has reached a point where her days of passive victimization are over. And the way she’s resolving the situation, once again, is by bouncing on this individual. Her doing so is an act of personal edification, i.e. a self-empowerment move. And considering that the nature of her association with the addressee, the person whom she’s defriending, is not specified, “Lying Down” has a general applicability, as in its sentiments can be applied to virtually any type of relationship whereas a person feels mistreated.
