Meaning of “Inside Out” by Eve 6

“Inside Out” is a song the members of Eve wrote a few years before its release, while they were in their mid-teens. And as revealed by Max Collins, it centers on his reaction to be cheated on and subsequently heartbroken.

The above is very important to point out because first of all, the lyrics do a sound job of implying, though not overtly stating that the addressee did cheat on the vocalist. Or more specifically the latter lets it be known, partially through clever metaphors but also by dissing his ex, that the person he’s singing of/to did him dirty.

And all lyrics considered, that would most likely mean that she dumped him for somebody else. Secondly, the fact that Max and the gang were so young when they wrote “Inside Out” may explain why it possesses what some may deem to be understandability issues, at least as far as some particular lines and figurative lingo goes.

“I would swallow my pride, I would choke on the rimes
But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothin’ but faith in nothin’
Wanna put my tender heart in a blender
Watch it spin ’round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I’m through with you”
