On this song, Harry Styles is addressing a romantic interest, more specifically his ex-lover. And basically, the title of the track is a metaphor pointing to his desire to get her back. Indeed the fundamental sentiment being relayed is that he is having a difficult time functioning without her.

When you listen to the words of the song,  it seems to talk about an ex lover being begged to return. Others have mentioned that it had to do with his step father being very sick and eventually dying and how he felt about that experience. However, during an interview with Rolling Stone, he confirmed the song was about appreciating an ex.

Based on the lyrics of the song, his fans believe the track is about Kendall Jenner.

    Tbh i don’t think it’s a bout a girl at all and you could of least said them or they cause your just assuming his sexuality.

      Pronouns aside, this is an accurate interpretation from Rolling Stone. Want to add that I believe the term “meet me in the hallway” is referring to compromise. The song was written ages ago. There’s a good chance they have worked it out 🙂

    I think personally this song is a mixture of feelings about an ex and wanting them back as well as a drug problem at the time. Who knows maybe the ex didnt like him doing the morphine. One of the lines in the song he says specifically “give me the morphine, is there any more to do”- something like that. So I think he was struggling with the drug problem and his ex not wanting to be around him, which could have stemmed from the morphine use. Just a thought.
