Harry Styles’ “Him” Lyrics Meaning
Harry Styles’ “Him” is one of those types of songs that speaks directly to the vocalist’s celebrity. That is to say that it is implied the addressee may be a professional musician and furthermore one whose songs are unavoidable.
But before tackling that aspect of the narrative, more importantly would be what is comprehensively being put forth. And most simply explained, that is the vocalist being in his feelings due to the addressee, his ex, now having moved on to another guy.
But Harry makes it clear in the first verse that he isn’t trying to get her back. Instead, it’s as if he is still dealing with the emotional ramifications of the two of them parting ways. And his heartbreak is exacerbated by the fact that he actually hears his ex singing about her new guy in a song.
Indeed, Harry goes on to even state that some of the lines she drops about her current beau were rather written during his own relationship with the addressee. Or as put, it was actually Styles she ‘had on her mind’ when she wrote the songs that are instead dedicated to her new romance.
Also, said songs tend to be quite intimate. And in that regard, let’s just say that no man really wants to hear about his ex, presumably someone he loved in this case, being with someone else like that. So that is where the titular expression in full is derived from, i.e. the vocalist telling the addressee that he “don’t wanna hear about” her present love life.
A Song about Taylor Swift?
It is interesting to note that fans of Harry Styles have concluded that said addressee would most likely be Taylor Swift, who he briefly dated back in the days. And the reason why such a theory holds weight is because, once again according to those who are very knowledgeable of Styles’ artistry, he has already stated (in song) in the past that one of Swift’s later relationships had him jealous.
But beyond that, the most blatant clue (if this song is true-to-life) would be that looking at the most notable conquests in Harry Styles dating history, Taylor stands as the only singer he’s ever been with.
When was “Him” released?
“Him” is a song of mysterious origins. That is to say that upon the track leaking in April of 2022, no one, as in fans of Harry, knows where it came from, as in which era of his discography he had recorded this track.
The general consensus, since it is believed to be about Taylor Swift, is that he did so circa 2017 which was when his first album, “Harry Styles”, came out. And that is because said LP reportedly featured a number of songs which were inspired by Styles’ romantic relationship with Swift.
In addition to this song, several other old, never-before-released Harry Styles songs as well as his third studio album leaked in April 2022. One such old unreleased work is a song entitled “Complicated Freak“.

How about the lyric “That nice dress in my wildest dreams”? It speaks thousands when coming up to that line. Oh, and btw Taylor Swift has a song called wildest dreams on her 1989 album, and in the song it literally says “Say you’ll remember me, standing in a NICE DRESS, staring at the sunset babe. RED LIPS and rosy cheeks, say you’ll see me again even if it’s just in your wildest dreams.” Oh come on everyone denies that it’s about Taylor because they were dating they broke up in 2013 and harry probably wrote it in 2017 or 2016 and people ask the question of why Harry would write a song about Taylor that’s 4 years from then… They were on and off just like Taylor said in her song called Style.

Exactly. And the song mentions lipstick on the sheets, and a dress. It’s about a girl. But I don’t think it’s about Taylor. I just don’t think he was it into her but what do I know?
But there is also a line called “And I don’t want to hear about him In these songs you continue to write” and and there was also a line like that in “perfect” ‘and if you want someone to write your break up songs about ” so yea I think it is for her
Perfect was written by Louis and Harry, trust me, it’s not about Taylor.
Yes he written “That nice dress in my wildest dreams” and “Lipstick stains you left still on my sheets”. But maybe Swift is not the only one who weared a dress and lipstick in his wildest dream… I say what i say huhu

There’s literally so much clues that the song is about her. The fact that he’s quoting her song wildest dreams in it or the fact that he hasn’t dated any other singers that can write songs about new boyfriends. And I mean Harry has admitted in his song medicine that he messes around with men and women but this song is definitely about Taylor and it’s cool if you don’t agree but the song is definitely about her.

Him is definitely written about Taylor. Harry gave us too many clues in the song. Also, Taylor does have a habit of taking lyrics she wrote and saving them for a future song. They had a much longer and complicated relationship than most fans know. They dated at two different times and hung out as friends after the official breakup when Taylor says she didn’t “date” anyone for 2 years before Calvin Harris. I think the song might be a little later than 2017 because who is “Him?” We never really heard any love songs about CH. It must be her current boyfriend.
Do you think Harry still had feelings for Taylor all the way till 2017 when rep album songs were out and thus his line “I don’t want to hear about him in these songs you continue to write”? Another possibility would be in 2015 BBMAs when Taylor was with Calvin. Heard that they were really packing the PDA then, and Harry was in attendance and had a front row view of them while on stage. But like you said there were no ‘love’ songs released about CH….
