“No Time to Die” by Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish’s “Not Time to Die” plays out like a love song, as in it can be interpreted as being romantic in nature. However, it is debatable whether or not the narrator is speaking to another individual or an idea. But whether the addressee is an actual person or a personification, the overall implication is that her relationship with this entity has fallen apart. And she also implies, to some degree, that the situation having evolved in such a manner is partially her own fault.

However, more to the real point, is the notion that she had been deceived by the addressee, as in being ‘fooled’ into perceiving him in a manner which may not be a true representation of who he is. Yet despite the associated anguish she is feeling from having her heart broken so to speak, she is not keen on letting her emotions get the best of her. Indeed the title of this track is based on such an idea, that as it stands now she simply has “no time to die”. Or considering the song in its entirety, this phrase can be reworded in a manner such as the singer does not find it convenient, at all, to be overtaken with emotion. And this is despite the fact that she is clearly going through a considerable degree of inner turmoil.

So conclusively, we can say that there is one overall theme of this work. And the theme is centered on the narrator’s resiliency in the face of adversity, especially it would seem of the emotional variety.
