“Overjoyed” by Matchbox Twenty

As you have probably already guessed just from reading the title, this is in fact a love song. And accordingly the person who makes the singer feel “overjoyed” is the addressee, i.e. his romantic partner.

During some junctures, such as the first verse, he depicts her as possibly being depressed. And in that regard, he is hoping that his presence will bring her the same type of joy that he experiences by having her around her.  Indeed the sentiment being expressed most consistently throughout is his desire to “come over” and visit her. Also while there, he intends to “tell (her) secrets nobody knows”, thus further strengthening the bond between them.

So basically, as is illustrated near the end of the song, what’s actually going down here is that the singer is addressing someone he would like to “share his life” with. And within the context of the track this basically means three things. One is that he wants to be physically close to her. Second is that he wants to open up to her and share his deepest secrets. And lastly, he is generally “overjoyed” that this lady in particular is playing this role in his life.
