“Pointless” by Lewis Capaldi

The lyrics of Lewis Capaldi’s “Pointless” do a sound job of allowing the vocalist to delineate what it is he puts into his romance with the addressee, and what he likewise gets out of her in return. And without us going into too much detail ourselves, what it boils down to is Lewis deriving complete edification from this relationship.

So that premise, if you will, is then meant to lead us to the titular/thesis sentiment, which is the singer finding “everything… pointless without” her by his side. That’s basically a fancy way of Capaldi implying that the most-pleasurable aspect of his entire life is being with the addressee.

Or put more simply, he’s in a state of love in which it is impossible to imagine being devoid of his sweetheart. And again what that assertion points to, in context, is the vocalist being convinced that the two of them are perfect for each other.

Am I the only one who interprets the lyrics of this song as a love song to a partner who is suffering from dementia?

I’m confused by the song lyrics put together with the video. The song is badged up as a man and woman, and how he is saying life is pointless without her, but the video is depicting a mother and son relationship!! So which is it about. Because the video of a single mum raising her boy is not showing what the words mean as they are about a loving man and woman relationship??

I understood this song to be written from a solid relationship to another woman who he can’t stop loving romantically, because the verse is ‘she’ and the chorus is ‘you’. I will continue to hear it that way, because I think it’s more heartbreaking that way.

I will hear it that way too. Infact I’m sending it my distant girlfriend. After all it’s beautiful and touching. It almost makes me cry whenever I come back from work and there’s no one to speak to. Food isn’t sweet, without her everything is now pointless. This wasn’t the case when she was around and now.. I’ll wait for you my love
