“The Power of Prayer” by Bruce Springsteen

Regardless of how the title of this track reads, it is in fact a love song. And the way Bruce Springsteen comes off is that “the power of prayer” is manifest via his relationship with the addressee. Or stated differently, he perceives her presence in his life as a blessing.  But he is not just resting on his laurels after receiving this loving gift. Rather he is so appreciative that he is still trying to make their romance better, with the two of them “reaching for heaven” as the Boss puts it.

Power of Prayer to me is like an early version of the best selling book The Secret. If you can envision it, it can come to you. It’s brilliant. It’s reminiscent of Asbury and boardwalks to me also where magic is in believing. Who else loves this song?

Nothing special about the song’s chord progression except the D/F# following the e minor. Otherwise, for the most part, the lyrics seem more personal to Springsteen’s experiences. Seems to me, he sold the piece short by not putting more thought into them.
