Meaning of “Trojan Horse” by Dave & Central Cee

Just a few days before writing this article on “Trojan Horse”, we took a look at Dave and Central Cee’s track “Sprinter“. At the time, though it was reported that the two British rappers are established homeys, we were not aware that they were on the verge of dropping a joint project together.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Dave & Central Cee's Trojan Horse at Lyrics.org.

But that has in fact what transpired, via the efforts of UMG, Live Yours and Neighbourhood Records, on 5 June 2023, as the pair have released a collaborative EP titled “Split Decision”. Amongst the tracks featured therein, besides “Splinter”, is “Trojan Horse”, which was written by the two rappers and produced by Dave.

In creating this song, the pair sampled the 2009 track “Trisha’s Lullaby” by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir (from the soundtrack of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood).

“That was a risky text before, if I send that now, there ain’t no danger
The way that the light bounce of off these GIAs make gyal act stranger
Got love for all of the young Gs bookin’ a flight, and I’m headed to Asia
Four and a baby goin’ away, times were hard, I slept in a manger
Give her the Trojan, give her the Trojan Horse, I feel like Troy
Had a revolver, decomposin’ hid in the woods, I feel like Roy
She give me a whine, blood rushed to my genitals
Lucky for me, she could feel my—
Is it right? Won’t say that it is
Shame that it is and it is what it is”

Lyrics of “Trojan Horse”

As with “Sprinter”, “Trojan Horse” comes off as the type of the song which established fans of the two vocalists involved would mostly enjoy. For instance, this piece is a whopping seven verses’ long, with Dave, arguably the more talented of the two, holding down four of them.

And whereas the lyrics are reflective of what can be deemed random musings, there are some permeating subthemes throughout. For instance, earlier on both artists allude to their come-up, i.e. the notion that they ascended from impoverished backgrounds.

Relatedly, in harping back to his days on the streets, Dave mentions being “chased by feds”, which may be a tall tale or, if you so, he obviously got away. But later on, when he notes his “broski”, i.e. brother, being “locked”, that is fact, as one of his older siblings is currently doing a bid on a murder charge.

The one subject the rappers touch on most frequently though appears to be that of women. In fact the title of this song is derived from a line in which Dave also mentions “Trojan” within the context of it being a well-known cond-m brand.

And when he goes on to state that he ‘gave her the Trojan Horse’, said structure, according to lore, was made of wood. So that can be another way of the vocalist saying that he gave homegirl the wood, with wood also being a well-known colloquialism pointing to an erect penis.

The Long and Short of “Trojan Horse”

The lyrics find Dave and Central Cee pretty much just talking about life on the streets, the music biz, and ladies.
