“Used to This” by Camila Cabello
In “Used to This”, Camila Cabello is addressing someone akin to a new romantic interest. This is not to say that she is just now meeting this person. In fact it is someone whom she has been friends with for a while. But now their relationship has developed into an intimate one. And what she is saying is that she can get “used to” the new places and customs he is introducing her to. For instance she was never fond of San Francisco. But now, since he kissed her there, she has developed an affinity for the city. She also “never did like tequila” in the past. But presently just seeing this guy makes her want to take a sip. And the insinuation is that this is so because tequila is one of his favorite drinks.
So with that being said, this is the one love song on Camila Cabello’s sophomore album “Romance” whereas it is most obvious whom the track is about in real life. And that would be her current beau (as of the release of the album), Shawn Mendes. We know this due to various clues mentioned throughout, in addition to other information that has been made available. For instance she gives a shoutout to the tattoos on her lover’s skin, and Camila and Shawn recently got tattoos together. Moreover, concerning that kiss in San Francisco, Camila is on record as having actually started penning “Used to This” after she and Mendes had their first date – as well as initial kiss – in the Golden City. Additionally Cabello has stated forthrightly that this song “is about when you’re friends with someone for a really long time, and you start dating them”. And she and Shawn were indeed friends for a number of years before they opted to get intimate.
So as aforementioned, the addressees of other tracks on the “Romance” album (which do not actually feature Shawn Mendes) are, to varying degrees, debatable. But this one, more so than any other, is about Shawn Mendes. And what Camila is inferring is that the two of them getting involved on this level caught her off-guard, as ‘it’s going to take her a minute’ to adjust to this reality. But at the same time, now that it has started she is obviously pleased. Moreover the overall sentiment is akin to the songstress hoping that this relationship continues into the foreseeable future.

“Used to This” was produced by Finneas, who is best known as the brother and frequent collaborator of another popular female singer, Billie Eilish.
He also co-wrote the song along with Amy Wadge and Cabello.
“Used to This” came out, via Epic Records and Syco Records, on 6 December 2019. It is a feature on Camila Cabello’s second album, which is entitled “Romance”.
Camila and Mendes, a pop singer in his own right, have been buddies since 2014. In fact they even dropped a track together entitled “I Know What You Did Last Summer” back in 2015. And throughout the years, they have been persistent rumors that they were in fact dating. However, they didn’t actually begin doing so until around mid-2019, which was around the same time they dropped their next collaboration, “Señorita”, which is another song that is featured on Cabello’s “Romance” album. In fact there’s a reference to tequila in that track also.
