“We Made It” by Louis Tomlinson

It is easy to conclude that Louis Tomlinson’s “We Made It” is based solely on a romance. The singer recounts getting acquainted with someone who would likely be his first true love (first verse). Then he moves on to the challenges they faced in their relationship (second verse) and celebrates that they overcame them all (chorus).

However, according to Louis Tomlinson, there’s more to it than that. In the choruses when he talks about being “underestimated” and “underrated”, he is actually referring to some of the moments earlier in his career (including when he first joined One Direction). He also believes that his fans have been “really patient” waiting for him to blow up on the solo tip.

So when he states “we made it”, he’s also alluding to the idea of he and his fans finally reaching the point where he’s really coming out as a solo artist.  Also the general theme of the song is meant to be supportive of underdogs in general. So in that regard, Louis seems to acknowledge that he wasn’t one of the more-popular members of One Direction when they were active. Thus he is especially appreciative that now his moment has finally arrived.
