“Fearless” by Louis Tomlinson

This song is premised on the singer equating ‘fearlessness’ with youth. And being “fearless” is generally considered to be a preferable disposition. The song’s lyrics find the narrator (Louis Tomlinson) speaking directly to someone whom he apparently knows from their younger days together. And it is revealed that this person has made significant progress in his adult life, such as having a good job and driving his dream car. However, Louis is able to perceive that these accomplishments came at a cost. And said price is presented as the addressee no longer having a grasp on what it means to “feel young”.

So it can be said that the singer views the transition into what is perceived as the ideological, prototypical adult life as one which sucks the joy out of living. For in transforming into such a person, said individuals, like the addressee, become rigid and shall we say disciplined to the point where they no longer take the kinds of risks which tends to make youth the most-enjoyable epoch in a persons’s history.

So conclusively, the reason that Louis is presenting this issue to his friend would be based on his concern that his buddy is becoming too dull for his own good.
