“24.19” by Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino’s “24.19” is absolutely a love song. But being that this is Gambino we’re dealing with here, he’s not going to let the listener off the hook without putting them through some mental exercises first. And in this case, let’s just succinctly say that he is presenting, from his own prospective, both the good and the bad of being in this relationship. Indeed it can be said that he is both happy and sad as a result of it at the same time. Or perhaps more to the point, he has sacrificed a certain degree of freedom in order to be in this romance.

So conclusively, the prevailing sentiment of this song features the singer expressing appreciation for having the addressee (i.e. his romantic interest) in his life. But permeating throughout is also a sense of remorse. Indeed the very-last expression made features Childish exclaiming that the he is ‘losing his mind’.  Or another way of looking at it is that there are a lot of emotions being exchanged in this relationship that he just can’t understand.  But at the end of the day, it is still pretty clear that he is attached to his partner and vice versa.
