“Bonfire” by Childish Gambino

“Bonfire” was actually the first official single Childish Gambino ever dropped. Prior to that he (i.e. Donald Glover) was known primarily as a comedian. And accordingly there is definitely a humorous element to this tune.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Childish Gambino's Bonfire at Lyrics.org.

Actually this is in fact a bona fide braggadocious track. Indeed the title fundamentally alludes to the idea that Childish, from a musical perspective, is on fire. And in touting his superiority he not only references to his exceptional musical skills but also but also his romantic and bedroom prowess. And again, he goes about getting these points across via the utilization of some of the most-colorful metaphors he could think of. And in doing so he references the likes of “NASDAQ”, “PETA”, “Kogi beef”, “Casey Anthony”, etc.

So at the end of the day this song serves as the sort of tune used to introduce the audience to a new artist on the rap scene. In other words there isn’t necessarily a central theme or storyline. Rather it features the rapper, in an as unique way as possible, boasting about his various talents.
