Wouldn’t Leave by Kanye West

“Wouldn’t Leave” off the “Ye” album, oh man, this one is a heartfelt one, right? Kanye dropped this in 2018, and it’s one of those tracks where he’s wearing his heart on his sleeve. The song is like a confession and a love letter all packed into one, mainly directed to his then-wife, Kim Kardashian West. He talks openly about his controversial slavery comments on TMZ and how it impacted his personal life, especially his relationship with Kim.

It’s like he’s laying out his vulnerabilities, acknowledging the chaos he sometimes causes but also highlighting the unconditional love and support he received despite all that. The lyrics, “I said, ‘Slavery a choice’ – they said, ‘How, ‘Ye?’ / Just imagine if they caught me on a wild day,” show his acknowledgment of the controversial storm he sometimes stirs.

But then it flips to a sincere appreciation for the people (particularly Kim) who stick by him. PARTYNEXTDOOR’s hook gives it that emotional, somewhat melancholic vibe that makes the track so introspective and, in a way, beautifully raw.
