“Audacity” by Stormzy (ft. Headie One)

Stormzy’s “Audacity” is a song based on “likkle fish” testing Stormzy. Or stated simply, the rapper is calling out opponents whom he doesn’t feel are worthy of actually challenging him. And the “likkle fish” not only implies that they are less-influential than Stormzy but also younger in age. Yet despite the differences in age and accomplishments, these ‘ashy youths’ still have the “audacity” to ‘try a thing’, as in tempt the rapper to the point of confrontation.

But outside of that particular story line, which dominates the chorus, the rest of the song, i.e. Stormzy’s and Headie One’s individual verses, read more or less like your standard braggadocio raps. The rappers are basically touting their wealth, toughness and in the case of Stormzy in particular his appeal to the opposite sex.

So fans of Stormzy know exactly what to expect in this song. But the hook, if you will, is that there is a special emphasis on the artist letting young, disrespectful dudes know that he’s not having it.
