“Biblical” by Calum Scott

It may seem quite striking that a gay musician like Calum Scott would come out with a song entitled Biblical. This is something he more or less acknowledged himself. But Calum also went on to explain that he is speaking more to the “Biblical proportions” sense of the word. And more specifically what he is singing about is “a love beyond description or measure, a love… that transcends everyone and everything”.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Calum Scott's Biblical at Lyrics.org.

But all of that noted, it would appear that the type of relationship he is speaking to specifically would be of a romantic nature. And the aforementioned ‘Biblical love’ would be type that he is the recipient of via the addressee. And the heart of the message Scott is putting forth is twofold. On one hand he is expressing this sort of appreciation for the addressee, marveling at how he ‘fell so hard’ for him in the first place. Secondly, the vocalist is pledging his commitment to this individual.  In fact in that regard, he is expressing a desire to become the lifelong partner of the addressee.

So most simply put this is a love song, as in your standard tune of romance, whereas the vocalist has become so smitten with a romantic interest that he is interested in marrying the person.

Hi Calum, I just heard the audition by the Johns Boys of your beautiful “Biblical”. Two questions for you…1) Is the TTBB setting published? 2) If not, Is the solo version published? I am a retired choral director and have had over 40 choral songs published. (Mostly written for my college choir, church choir or local high schools) I will be directing what will probably be my last high school honor choir next year in February and would like to feature the TB’s on your song. Thank you for your music and your consideration of this request
